Steamer

Have a friend studying to be an aesthetician, so I have gone to her school for a couple of her facials and I really love getting facials again. My skin has responded so positively. Ordered and now waiting for a facial steamer to arrive. It was a luxury item to buy. A person can make a perfectly good steamer with a bowl of boiled water, and a towel. Just set bend your face over the bowl and use the towel to direct the steam up towards your face.

Instead of going simple, I spent $70 on a gadget that will allow me to, hopefully, lie on my back, and let the steamer direct the steam down towards my face. More relaxing. It is a luxury.

This is the older model from Dr Dennis Gross, sold on the Home Shopping Network. It has been discontinued and they all selling a more conventional steamer where you put your head down into the steamer bowl and it naturally moves up towards your face.

Will review facials steps on YouTube videos, but have my products all set, do cleansing once and toning two times: Cleanser -Alba Botanica Toner -Alba Botanica Serum -Pai Moisturizer -Metta Will heat up moistened towels in the microwave. It will be good. Luckily don't need any extracitons. Yay!

We'll see. Hopefully I won't regret it the way I regretted spending $100 on a heated foot bath, where I really did prefer a bowl of warm tap water and few rounded lake stones to brush my feet against. Ended up selling that, it was too heavy and cumbersome.

UPDATE: Only distilled water can be used with this steamer, so I do already regret it.  The cost is much too high.  Reviews are not good; suggest it is dangerous.  Oh well, another bad choice.  Will resell this. Logic dictates: keep it simple.

Cosmetics

Wow! I just re-read the most recent post from October 2016 and I realized that plan has worked!

As of this month January I have rejoined Weight Watchers.  Today is the start of week two.

My interest in cruelty-free makeup has burgeoned, out of my renewed interest in makeup.  I'm even starting to wear nail lacquer because the clean versions don't weaken my nails as much as the conventional products did.

So what a journey this has been.  I wish I had been blogging it or started a YouTube vlog.  I get almost all my information from YouTube and a few cruelty-free bloggers, who have lists of cruelty-free cosmetic companies.

In terms of what to buy, ethically:
- cruelty-free is my first concern,  and then
-vegan or clean green products are tied for my second concern, and
-of course cost will definitely allow me to try a new product or not, hand in hand with
-my desire for minimalism "buy less, reuse more" versus my desire to try every cool new cruelty-free brand out there.
So I tend to plan what I will buy, one beauty purchase per month on top of the monthly beauty box subscriptions, and only buy when on sale.

So here is a list of my favorite brands of products I am using and like best so far:

Regarding joining Weight Watchers online, weighing at home first thing in the morning barefoot my starting weight was 218 lbs, as of last night after midnight I weighed 219 lbs, but first thing this morning I weighed 218.2 lbs, so a gain either way. However, its still a WIN because I am being more conscious and careful and learning, so I'm still happy with the direction I'm heading.
